Seat height in stools: the detail that makes the difference.

How to Choose the Ideal Stool Height

Choose a stool based on the height of your table to ensure comfort and practicality. Stools with a low back are useful for saving space, while swivel stools offer freedom of movement. Four-legged fixed stools are very stable, making them ideal for the kitchen or living room. It’s important to select the right height to avoid usage issues and returns. In general, the stool should be 25/28 cm lower than the tabletop, depending on the type of table used.

For a bar-height table, choose a stool with a height between 76 and 78 cm. A 76 cm stool is perfect for standard bar counters that are 110 cm high. However, since bar tables can vary in height, it's important to carefully check this measurement before making your final choice.

For a kitchen work surface, choose a stool with a height between 65 and 67 cm. High tables, central islands, or peninsulas have a standard height of 90 cm, so the most suitable stool for the kitchen should be 66 cm. Remember that the ideal measurements for stools in the kitchen or living area should include a footrest positioned 44/45 cm from the seat, to ensure proper posture and comfort.

For a high snack table, the recommended stool height is the same as for a bar table, so choose a 76 cm stool. There are also snack tables with heights above 120 cm; in these cases, it’s better to opt for an extra-high stool of 80/85 cm or choose adjustable stools.

For traditional dining tables, choose a low stool. Like a classic chair, the ideal height for a low stool is between 45 and 47 cm. In the past, tables often reached 80 cm in height, while today the standard heights range from 75 to 78 cm.
For custom tables with specific heights, choose adjustable stools. Wooden stools with a manual screw mechanism are ideal for rustic or mountain environments. Adjustable stools in plastic or metal, equipped with a gas pneumatic mechanism, are better suited for modern and informal settings.
